3-Day Master Class in Istanbul
Nancy Bishop, CSA Casting Director and author, of Secrets from the Casting Couch, offers special Master Classes in Istanbul, Turkey, “Derâliye – The Sublime Gate “, April 1-3, 2014. With special guest: Hariku Uygur, ICDN/CSA Casting Director (Head-On, A Beautiful Life, The International, Taken 2, One Night in Istanbul.)
Summary: This three day intensive series of Master Classes is designed for actors who wish to brush up on their professional on screen audition skills as well as to make connections in the international acting community. Each actor will receive professional feedback and a copy of their scene work. The three day Master Class will be co-taught by Joel Kirby, Head Acting Coach of the Nancy Bishop Technique. Casting Director Hariku Uygur, (film credits Head-On, A Beautiful Life, The International, Taken 2, One Night in Istanbul) will be making a special guest appearance. (The Marketing Seminar for International Work and Archetype workshop held on the first day is also open to Directors, Agents and Producers.)

Tuesday, 1st April 2014*
10:30 Meet at venue for welcome coffee and orientation.
11:00-14:00 Marketing Seminar for International Work
In this seminar, actors will learn how to present themselves for international work; how to
crack into the US and European markets. Marketing skills covered will include how to
develop an effective CV, chose a key photo for headshots, and create a show reel and
website. Casting videos from successful actors will be screened.
14:00 Lunch
15:00-17:00 Archetype Workshop
Actors should bring their photos and CVs for discussion. The class will view and critique one another´s headshots, helping to pinpoint a key archetypal image for each actor.
17:00-18:00 Q&A with Hariku Uygur. Our special guest at the workshop will be Casting Director, Hariku Uygur. Hariku´s casting credits include: Head-On, A Beautiful Life, The International, Taken 2, One Night in Istanbul and many more. During this exclusive Question and Answer session, participants will have the opportunity to directly ask Hariku about her casting process as well as specific insights into the Turkish film industry.

11:00-14:00 Master Class: Strategies for Film Auditioning
14:00 Lunch
15:00-18:00 continuation of Master Class. This section targets specific strategies for casting, including cold reading skills, and audition technique. Actors will be assigned scenes from a variety of genres to prepare for the following day.
Thursday, 3rd April 2014
11:00-14:00 Master Class Scene Study. Actors will further develop auditioning and screen acting skills with a mock casting by taping and reviewing scenes.
14:00 Lunch
15:00-18:00 continuation of shooting scenes followed by reviewing and critique.
About Nancy: Emmy-award nominated, American Casting Director, Nancy Bishop, has cast over sixty American and British films, from her base in Prague. She has cast for major feature films including and Mission Impossible IV, Roman Polanski’s Oliver Twist, Prince Caspian, Bourne Identity, and she recently finished the European casting on Bong Joon-Ho’s Snowpiercer, starring Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, and Octavia Spencer. Recent credits include Child 44 produced by Ridley Scott and starring Tom Hardy, and Gary Oldman. She has been teaching film acting workshops throughout Europe, the UK, and the US for many years. In addition, Nancy is the founding head of the Acting for Film Department at the Prague Film School.

About Joel: Joel Kirby and Nancy Bishop have been collaborating for many years on casting and coaching. Joel was crucial to the development of the Bishop technique of screen actor coaching. A professional actor himself, he resides in Berlin. His international film acting credits include, Babylon A.D., Euro Trip, Harrison´s Flowers, Hitler: The Rise of Evil, Anne Frank: The Whole Story, Beyond the Sea, The Ghostwriter (Dir: Roman Polanski) and Faust directed by Alexandr Sokurov, awarded the 2011 Golden Lion for Best Film in Venice. German films credits include, Drei Schwestern: Made in Germany, Erkan & Stefan and most recently award-winning Hannah Arendt directed by Margarethe von Trotta. Joel has collaborated with Nancy on casting many projects including Hellboy, Mirrors, and The Illusionist and guest lectures at the Prague Film School.
About Hariku: Harika Uygur (ICDN/CSA) has been actively casting film and TV since the early 1990´s. Based in Turkey, her casting credits are vast including: Head-On (Fatih Akin), A Beautiful Life (Alejandro Chomski), The International (Tom Tykwer), Taken 2 (Olivier Megaton, produced by Luc Besson), most recently One Night in Istanbul (James Marquand) and many more. Since 2011 she regularly lectures and holds workshops called “Casting Selection Secrets”; gathering upon her past experience. In 2013, she shot her first short film the “Elephant Graveyard“. Currently she is casting numerous projects for TVC’s, TV Series, Film as well as working on her own short films.
